Aldi’s plant-based sales soar by 500%

Sales of Aldi’s plant-based products have increased by 500% year-on-year during January 2022, thanks to the ongoing success of Veganuary.

The discount supermarket also saw sales of its vegan range increase by more than 250% throughout 2021 (when compared with the year prior), indicating that plant-based product is not just for Veganuary.

Aldi’s range of plant-based alternatives available for Veganuary 2022 had been expanded by more than 50% in response to ongoing demand, offering everything from ready meals and frozen food to bakery items and confectionery.

Aldi’s managing director of buying, Julie Ashfield, expects the increase in demand for plant-based products to continue throughout the rest of the year.

“Veganuary is getting bigger and bigger each year as the UK’s appetite and interest in plant-based food grows,” she stated.

“In response to that demand we’re continuing to expand our vegan offering, giving our shoppers plenty of choice and all at great value.

“But it’s also a trend that we’re witnessing year-round and, as more and more people adopt this diet, we expect these products to remain popular throughout the year.”
