Getir to invest £100m and create thousands of jobs

Getir has pledged to invest £100 million and create 6,000 jobs in the UK as it celebrates its first anniversary since its London store opening.

Getir’s e-bike and e-mopeds were first launched in the UK in January 2021. Since then, the company has been in operation in around 20 cities including Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool, creating 4,000 jobs.

The fast grocery delivery company has announced plans to increase this number to 10,000  in a bid to “expand significantly” by the end of 2022.

To celebrate its first anniversary, Anne-MarieTrevelyan MP, secretary of state for international trade will open Getir’s 115th store in Wolverhampton today.

“2021 was an extremely successful year for Getir as we began our global expansion.” Said Geitr regional general manager Turancan Salur.

“From only five stores when we opened a year ago, we now serve our customers from 115 stores which have created thousands of jobs – all from the area surrounding our stores.

“We deliver groceries within minutes of them being ordered and are able to support many local producers around every city and town that we operate in. 

“We have beaten all expectations for 2021 and plan to go even further this year; if there is demand out there, we’ll be ready to serve it.”

Marie added: “We’re making the UK the most attractive investment destination in the world across our economy – from our thriving food and drink sector to innovative digital commerce brands like Getir.

“Foreign investment means more high-value jobs providing a major boost to local economies. Today’s opening in Wolverhampton shows how trade and investment are turbocharging the green industries of the future and helping to level up every part of our country.”
