Damm’s newly acquired business, Old Speckled Hen, is launching an alcohol-free variant of the popular premium ale following a shift in consumer behaviour.

The new zero variant will launch at selected Morrisons stores in a 4-pack with 440ml cans from today [7 September] onwards. Additionally, cans and 500ml bottles will be rolled out to Asda online and stores later this month.

The Old Speckled Hen zero aims to offer shoppers the standard malty taste but without alcohol and fewer calories.

This is a strategic business move that is a direct response to the growing trend of 0 per cent ABV drinks and the increasing number of people who want no/low options.

Luke White, managing director of Damm UK said: “We know that consumer drinking behaviour is now tailored around occasions, and the launch of ‘Old Speckled Hen’ Zero reflects that.

“Whatever the reason for moderating, we believe that this 0.0 per cent traditional ale is going to become a national favourite.”

Recently, there has been a rapid increase in no/low sales, with a record number of Brits taking part in Dry January this year.

Research from Drinkaware also revealed that a record 91 per cent of drinkers are moderating alcohol intake, which is an increase from 87 per cent in 2025.

This launch marks the first major innovation since Damm’s acquisition of Old Speckled Hen, which reinforces the company’s commitment to investing in long-term growth.

In July Damm UK acquired Old Speckled Hem family of brands from Greene King which is part of its plan as the largest independent brewer operating in the UK.
