Wagamama launches on Uber Eats with Tokyo Drift-style delivery stunt

News

Wagamama has launched nationwide on Uber Eats with a new promotional campaign that will see selected London orders delivered by a British drifting champion in a customised Japanese sports car.

The chain has partnered with Uber Eats on its ‘Drift Deliveries’ activation, which will replace the usual delivery vehicle with a neon-lit 1998 Toyota Chaser for a limited number of customers in the capital.

The 340-horsepower car, finished in chrome red with black flame graphics, oversized aero styling and star-patterned wheels, will be driven by 2019 British Drift Champion and 2022 DriftPro Champion Ollie Evans.

The campaign has been launched to mark Wagamama’s expansion across the Uber Eats platform, making dishes including chicken katsu curry, gyozas and bang bang cauliflower available for delivery to more customers across the UK.

Alongside the London stunt, shoppers ordering Wagamama through Uber Eats between 21 and 23 July will be entered into a ballot for the chance to win a year’s supply of food from the restaurant chain.

Selected entrants will first be invited to take part in a food-themed challenge while riding as a passenger in the Toyota Chaser during a professional drifting experience at a UK racetrack.

Customers will need to order Wagamama through Uber Eats during the promotional period to qualify.

Members of Wagamama’s Soul Club loyalty scheme will receive double entries when using an active membership email address at checkout.

Uber Eats UK general manager Merve Basci said: “Great food deserves memorable moments.

“As Wagamama reaches more homes than ever through Uber Eats, we wanted to celebrate in a way that’s as bold and energetic as the food itself.

“Drift Deliveries turns an everyday order into something completely unexpected.”

Wagamama UK chief executive Mark Chambers added: “Launching on Uber Eats means even more people across the UK can enjoy their favourite dishes, wherever they are.

“To celebrate, we wanted to do something that captured the energy and passion behind the food while staying true to our Japanese roots.

“Drift Deliveries brings together speed, spectacle and culture to mark the occasion in a way that’s unmistakably Wagamama.
