Ruth Cadbury MP backs Generation Logistics as vital route into supply chain careers

News

Ruth Cadbury MP has praised Generation Logistics as an important route into work for young people and those returning to employment, as the sector steps up efforts to build its future talent pipeline.

Speaking at a Generation Logistics event at the Houses of Parliament this week, the chair of the Transport Select Committee said logistics offered a “route into a career into a vital sector” and stressed that the industry was one “we all rely on”.

The careers awareness campaign, which is now in its fourth year, is designed to change perceptions of logistics and encourage more people to consider careers across transport, warehousing, supply chain and distribution.

The event was attended by more than 100 guests, including parliamentarians and representatives from the House of Lords, and featured three young logistics professionals sharing their career paths and ambitions for the future.

Phil Roe, executive sponsor of Generation Logistics, said the campaign had become a key part of efforts to build the next generation of supply chain talent.

“Generation Logistics is key to the future talent pool of the sector that underpins all economic activity, both here and overseas,” he said.

“We are particularly grateful to Ms Cadbury for recognising the contribution that our industry makes to the overall success of our nation.

“Logistics is not just a job – it is an opportunity for young people to make their mark and develop a sustainable, long-term career that makes the difference for everyone, and that is something to be celebrated.”

Roe also thanked the more than 40 businesses supporting the campaign in its fourth year, saying they were helping to challenge outdated views of a sector that plays a critical role in keeping the economy moving.

Roe added that the young professionals speaking at the event showed the strength of the sector’s future workforce.

“All of our young speakers at Parliament were incredibly inspiring and demonstrated the talent and dedication that runs across our whole workforce,” he said.

“These young people will be the backbone of our sector for years to come and we are so very proud of their achievements.”
