Ritter Sport lands Sainsbury’s meal deal spot in nationwide expansion

News

Ritter Sport UK has secured new nationwide listings with Sainsbury’s, including a breakthrough into the supermarket’s meal deal fixture.

The confectionery brand said it will become the only 100g chocolate brand available as part of the retailer’s meal deal offer.

From July, Ritter Sport Coconut and Peppermint will launch across 515 Sainsbury’s stores as permanent confectionery aisle listings.

Ritter Sport Butter Biscuit will then roll out across 630 stores from August, including in front-of-store singles fixtures and within the Sainsbury’s meal deal.

The new listings take Ritter Sport’s Sainsbury’s range to 13 SKUs and build on growing momentum for the brand within the supermarket.

Ritter Sport said it is now Sainsbury’s fifth largest chocolate brand by value, outperforming its position in the wider market.

The brand added that it contributed 33 per cent of Sainsbury’s block chocolate volume growth last year, making it a key driver of category growth.

The move is designed to strengthen Ritter Sport’s visibility across different shopper missions, from main confectionery aisle purchases to food-to-go occasions.

The brand said Butter Biscuit’s inclusion in the meal deal will introduce shoppers to a larger-format, higher-quality chocolate option in one of grocery’s most important convenience fixtures.

Ritter Sport UK and Ireland managing director Benedict Daniels said: “These new Sainsbury’s listings make it even easier to discover Ritter Sport quality.

“Coconut and Peppermint bring proven, distinctive taste to the core aisle, while Butter Biscuit in the meal deal puts better chocolate within everyday reach.

“We know that once people try Ritter Sport, even just once, they repeat at record levels and that’s great news for shoppers, Sainsbury’s and the category.”

Ritter Sport Butter Biscuit combines Alpine milk chocolate with cocoa crème and crisp butter biscuit, while Coconut features milk chocolate with a shredded coconut filling.

Peppermint pairs dark chocolate with a peppermint fondant centre.

The brand said recent in-store activation had also helped bring new shoppers into the range, with two nationwide Sainsbury’s shippers delivering 74 per cent new customers to Ritter Sport.
