Ocado has launched a range of GLP-1-friendly meals as a response to the increasing number of customers seeking smaller portions and nutrient-dense options to take with their weight-loss drugs.

The online retailer started a new Weight Management aisle after research found that nearly three-quarters (73%) of respondents said it would be helpful to know which meals can support lean muscle preservation when using GLP-1 drugs.

As part of the new aisle, consumers can purchase products from partners, including Holland & Barrett’s nutrient-dense range and M&S’ high-protein meals.

Customers will be able to find meals under 600 calories, high-protein products, hydration support and a recipes aisle.

Over 22% of adults considered using weight loss injections, and the figure rose to 27% among 25- to 34-year-olds.

Charlie Parker, senior nutritionist at Ocado Retail, said: “We’re seeing customers actively seek out high-protein, high-fibre foods and balanced meal options to support healthier weight loss journeys and with reduced appetites.

“With our unrivalled range, Ocado’s new Weight Management aisle is here to make it easier for customers to make informed choices that support their goals beyond the number on the scales.”

This comes as research from Ocado among over 2,000 customers showed that a large number of the public are unaware of how weight-loss drugs, including brands such as Mounjaro or Wegovy, work.

The research found that 40% of consumers said they understood how the medication worked, while 42% were aware that the weight loss can lead to a reduction in lean muscle mass and fat.

Additionally, less than half, 46%, of respondents identified protein or fibre (48%) as essential for GLP-1 treatment despite their important role in preserving lean muscle mass and supporting long-term metabolic health.
