John Lewis Partnership, the parent company of Waitrose, has confirmed that Tom Palmer, the head of delivery and operations, has departed from the company.

Simon Fulford will take on the position of head of change delivery & technology moving forward.

David Hunn, chief information officer for the John Lewis Partnership, said: “We’re grateful for Tom’s contribution as part of our Technology Leadership Team and wish him every success in the future.

“He created a strong succession of talent, so there’s no slowing down of our technology transformation, and I’m delighted to say that Simon Fulford has stepped into the role of Head of Change Delivery & Technology.”

The Waitrose owner has undergone a number of C-suite changes in 2025. Earlier this year, John Lewis Partnership appointed Andy Mounsey as its permanent chief financial officer (CFO).

Mounsey said in a statement at the time: “I’m honoured and excited to take on the role of chief financial officer at such a transformative time for the Partnership.

“We’re seeing solid progress in our key financial metrics and continued improvements in customer sentiment. The Partnership is in strong financial health and stepping up investment this year for customers and partners.”

Additionally, in January, John Lewis Partnership’s chief customer officer, Charlotte Lock, stepped down after three years at the retailer.

Why so many leavers? JLP normally has long term Partners which gave the business long term planning, targets and results all of which have disappeared in the last 5 years (imho). The Partner bonus scheme has all but vanished and for most non management Partners this was seen as a key element of their benefits.

The Bonus was a mixed blessing, in good times a boost to morale. Conversely in poor times a disincentive. Other benefits such as Discount etc more viable . As a Head of Branch the Bonus announcements could be fraught.
