Aldi has launched a new summer support scheme which will see the discounter distribute vouchers to help parents with children’s living costs over the school holidays.

The retailer has now launched an open call for parents to join the scheme, which will offer vouchers for shoppers to use during a six-week period in July and August.

Aldi UK chief commercial officer Julie Ashfield said: “The school holidays can put extra pressure on finances, especially when it comes to keeping children fed, entertained and active during the six-week break.

“As the UK’s cheapest supermarket, we don’t believe in paying a premium for healthy, quality food, and we’ll always do what we can to support parents in making their money go further.”

The new programme aims to help parents fill up on whatever essentials they need over the summer, including food products, healthy snacks, children’s toys and garden activities.

Families will be able to apply for selection by sending in their name and email address to SummerSupportScheme@aldi.co.uk. Families will be picked randomly to receive a £50 voucher to spend in store.

This move is part of Aldi’s commitment to giving back to shoppers and families. Aldi Scotland recently launched a supermarket sweep challenge to raise funds for Children’s Hospices Across Scotland.

The discount supermarket also froze its baby formula prices in June to ensure affordable options for parents.
