Data: Lidl and Ocado sales soar as Waitrose hits four year high
Ocado and Lidl have been named the UK’s fastest-growing grocers, while Waitrose saw its highest sales since 2021, according to new data from Kantar.
Figures from Kantar’s Total Till Roll show that for the 12 weeks to 15 June 2025, Ocado led overall growth with a 12.2% sales rise.
This figure was driven by more frequent visits and strong demand across London and the South East, with the online grocer’s market share now standing at 1.9%.
Among traditional bricks-and-mortar players, Lidl was also the standout performer with 11.2% growth, marking its third consecutive month of double-digit sales increases.
The discounter’s market share climbed to 8.1%, up 0.4 percentage points year-on-year, while fellow discounter Aldi also grew sales by 6.5%, nudging its share up to 10.9%.
Waitrose also fared well, delivering its best result since March 2021 with a 5.5% increase, raising its market share to 4.5%.

Other retailers also showed success, with Tesco seeing a 7.0% boost in sales, securing the biggest market share gain at 0.5 percentage points to reach 28.1%. Sainsbury’s followed with 5.7% growth, raising its market share to 15.2%, and Morrisons grew by 2.2%, holding steady at 8.4%.
Elsewhere, Asda’s performance, though still down 1.7% year-on-year, showed signs of improvement. Data showed the supermarket chain’s market share currently sits at 11.9%, with hopes pinned on a summer recovery.
“Consumer concerns over price are continuing, and this is reflected in the figures. Sales of own label ranges grew at 4.2% this month, ahead of branded lines, as shoppers looked to balance their budgets,” said Kantar head of retail and consumer insight Fraser McKevitt.
“Deals also remain an important tool for retailers to offer value and the proportion of spending on promotion stepped up to 28.8% this period.”
However he added: “Higher prices didn’t stop shoppers making 490 million trips to the supermarket over the latest month, averaging almost 17 per British household. That’s the highest we’ve recorded since March 2020.
“As the sun tempted more people out, fresh fruit sales were one of the biggest winners. Consumers bought 2,400 packs of strawberries every minute in the last four weeks. People are trading up to more exotic fruits too, with sales of mangoes and blueberries climbing by 27% and 10% each.”
