Tesco pulls melt in the middle meat-free burgers over ‘burn risk’
Tesco has recalled its own brand, “melt in the middle,” meat-free burgers, over fears that they might be too hot.
The supermarket has taken the “precautionary step” to pull the Tesco Plant Chef 240g product due to burn risks.
The grocery giant’s recall states: “Tesco are taking the precautionary step of recalling Tesco Plant Chef 2 Meat-Free Burgers with Melting Middle because the centre of the burgers may maintain a high temperature once cooked. This may result in a burn risk to customers.”

It added that customers should not eat the burger and return to any store for a full refund.
The recall was accompanied by a Food Standards Agency statement that said: “The melting middle could potentially cause a burn risk to consumers when biting into the burger.”
In December last year, Tesco launched its new and improved Plant Chef range ahead of Veganuary, as part of a wider drive to ramp up its vegan offerings.
In May, the grocer added to its “plant-forward offerings” with the launch of a new plant-led Root & Soul range, in what it hailed a milestone in catering to flexitarian shoppers.

These burgers were lovely! I don’t understand why they would be a risk, it doesn’t take a genius to realize it would be hot! I cooked mine and left it for a couple of minutes and cut it in half to test the temperature before eating.
