Sainsbury’s and Iceland among retailers raided in riots
Sainsbury’s, Iceland and Greggs are among the retailers hit by violent riots over the weekend.
The chaos has seen buildings set alight and hooligans ransacking stores, affecting businesses across the UK.
A Sainsbury’s Local in Manchester was forced to shut after rioters “stormed” the store as eyewitnesses said a mob was “grabbing items and throwing them”.

In response to the riots, Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) issued a statement, ensuring it would “provide help and guidance to retailers and colleagues during this time”.
It added: “Help for retailers and colleagues is available through crisis support at Grocery Aid, whom we have contacted and are prepared for calls related to these incidents.
“We are also in discussion with the Home Office about the way the Riot Compensation Act’s provisions can be applied in these incidents, where retailers will be able to claim compensation if they have been impacted by a riot.”
