Aldi is set to create 1,000 jobs in upcoming new stores across the UK before the end of the year.

The discount supermarket currently employs over 45,000 colleagues across its network of more than 1,020 stores, but is due to employ more staff for its new locations.

Roles will include managerial positions, caretakers and cleaners, as well as store apprentices, with starting pay for Aldi store assistants currently at £12.40 per hour nationally.

This figure, which places Aldi workers as the highest paid in the industry, rises to £13.35 per hour, while starting pay for store assistants inside the M25 sits at £13.65 per hour, rising to £13.95 per hour.

Aldi recruitment director Kelly Stokes said: “As we continue to open in new areas, we’re looking to welcome hundreds more colleagues to our amazing teams across the country.

“We want even more people to be a part of our success in the future, which is why we offer a great working environment and opportunities to progress within the business.

“In May, Aldi announced its second pay increase for store colleagues this year, taking the supermarket’s investment in pay this year to £79m,” Stokes added.

It comes as the grocer plans to open 10 new stores across the UK this summer and 35 new stores before the end of the year as part of a £550m investment.
