Workers at Asda its Wisbech store are to walk out during Easter weekend over claims of cuts to hours and an “increase in a bullying management culture”.
The strike will run from 00:01am to 23:59pm on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 March, according to GMB.
The union claims that workers are unhappy over “poor levels” of training and support for their job roles, the equal pay claim “dragging on for years”, as well as health, safety and fire safety issues being “ignored”.
GMB regional organiser Keith Dixon said: “Asda Wisbech workers will strike during Easter weekend, one of the supermarket’s busiest weekends of the year.
“They face cuts to hours, non-existent training, toxic management and multiple health, safety and fire failings. Asda workers in Wisbech know it’s not good enough.”

To address the concerns raised by GMB, Asda has implemented a full health and safety review of the Wisbech store and created a live action plan.
It has also introduced additional daily health and safety checks and re-briefed all colleagues on health and safety standards.
An Asda spokesperson said: “Although we are disappointed by the GMB’s decision to proceed with this course of action, we will continue to engage with them and listen to their concerns.
“While any potential disruption to colleagues and customers is unwelcome, we have comprehensive plans in place to minimise any disruption in the event of industrial action.”
It will come as the second strike at an Asda store, after union members at the Gosport store staged a 48-hour walkout last month, over what GMB termed as a “toxic” working environment.
