5 new confectionery products – Mentos, Twix, Tesco, Rowntrees and Lily O’Brien

As Mentos, Twix, Tesco, Rowntrees and Lily O’Brien all dropped brand new products in the past week, we round up what they are, how much they cost and which UK supermarkets will be stocking the sweet treats.

Mentos

Confectionery brand Mentos released a new category-first 14-flavour hard chew sweet in as it seeks more “experiential and innovative” flavours.

Named Mentos Discovery, the company said the new product was designed to attract the growing appetite among sweet eaters for more exotic and “innovative” flavours.

Each pack includes one dragee (fruit chew) of each fruit flavour, in the order; passion fruit, lychee, blueberry, blackcurrant, lime, strawberry, raspberry, orange, lemon, watermelon, banana, grape, cherry and pineapple.

Mentos brand manager Sarah du Plessis said: “Research shows that a younger audience is more experimental and actively seek more innovative flavours. Flavour really is at the heart of the Mentos brand, so we are perfectly positioned to deliver this. Mentos Discovery is an opportunity to drive further appeal among younger audiences while offering something new for our existing fans, helping to disrupt the stale everyday with fresh fun.

“After the success of limited-edition Mentos Fanta – winner of Product of the Year 2023 and a twice-extended production run due to popular demand – we know that this latest innovation from Perfetti Van Melle is really set to hit the sweet spot with our consumers.”

Currently available in Morrisons, the confectionery is due to roll out to other retailers throughout Spring, (RSP 3 pack, £1.25, 5 pack £1.80).

Twix

Mars Chocolate Drinks & Treats is expanding its range with the addition of its new Twix Secret Centre Biscuits.

The new product combines the traditional biscuit, chocolate and caramel elements of Twix to a new format, under the Special Treats Biscuit category.

Mars Chocolate Drinks and Treats general manager Michelle Frost said: “Our Secret Centre Biscuits range which includes Mars and Bounty variants have added more than £680k to the category’s expect the new Twix Secret Centre Biscuits to accelerate this growth even further, bringing Twix fans to the biscuit aisle.”

Available from Home Bargains, the new Twix will roll out to other wholesale and convenience channels from late March (RRP £1.69).

Tesco

Tesco has released ten new own-brand chocolate bars, inspired by consumer popular favourite and iconic classic flavours.

Split across Tesco Finest and Tesco Core range, the Core line include Pretzel & Salt bar, Crispies, Caramel & Almond bar, Biscuit & Raisin bar, Pecan & Honeycomb bar and Whole Hazelnut bar.

Tesco Finest range includes Tesco Finest Peru Dark Chocolate, Côte d’Ivoire Orange Chocolate, Côte d’Ivoire Mint Chocolate, Ecuador Dark Chocolate and Dark Milk Chocolate bar .

The Tesco Finest chocolate bars also features single origin cocoa from South America or West Africa as part of Tesco’s partnership with the Transparence Cocoa programme and The Rainforest Alliance.

The new Tesco Core and Tesco Finest confectionery ranges are available at Tesco in-store and online for £1.80 and £1.60 respectively.

Rowntree

Nestlé Confectionery has launched a new addition to its Rowntree’s Randoms range: Fizzy Cactuz.

The new confectionery product contains zesty fruit flavours such as raspberry, kiwi, passionfruit and lime.

Rowntree senior brand manager Hayley Nixon said: “We are thrilled to introduce Randoms Fizzy Cactuz to our fans. Fizzy Cactuz represents our dedication to creating joyful and unexpected experiences. With each sweet’s unique taste and texture, we believe fans will love the randomness from the very first bite.”

The new confectionery product has launched in Asda and Morrisons, with rollout to other supermarkets and convenience stores to follow.

 

Lily O’Brien

Premium chocolatier Lily O’Brien has extended its offerings with the introduction of a new exclusive desserts collection.

Expanding into the boxed confectionery sector, the sweet inspired 24-piece Spring Dessert Collection includes flavours such as Hazelnut Torte, Raspberry Infusion, and Crème Brulée.

Lily O’Brien’s marketing director Karen Crawford said: “Lily O’Brien’s is all about luxury without the premium price tag – so we can reach a wider audience across both casual and inlaid box gifting.”

“Our previous limited-edition SKUs have surpassed expectations, supporting our brand and category share growth. Shoppers are looking for affordable, premium gifts which make a statement for different occasions. By tailoring our innovation to these moments, we can create a vibrant fixture which entices shoppers.”

The new confectionery collection will be available for £9 across select Asda stores.
