M&S boss celebrates as retailer named UK’s best brand

M&S’ chief executive Stuart Machin has celebrated the “hard work of the whole M&S team”, as a new survey named the retailer as the UK’s best brand for 2024 by YouGov.

Achieving a score of 50.3, M&S was ranked first on the list, surpassing fellow retailers John Lewis and Boots who placed fifth and ninth, with a score of 40.5 and 38.0 respectively.

Other FMCGs on the list include chocolate brands Cadbury and Lindt who came in at fourth and sixth with a score of 42.2 and 38.9 respectively.

Praising his team for their hard work, Machin took to LinkedIn to describe the YouGov ranking as “encouraging”.

Machin said: “Our vision is to be the most trusted retailer, doing the right thing for our customers, where quality products are at the heart of everything we do.”

“So this result in YouGov’s Best Brand rankings is encouraging, and reflects the hard work of the whole M&S team aiming to deliver exceptional quality, value, service, and innovation to our customers – however, whenever and wherever they choose to shop with us.”

Machin added: “But we have a long way to go and we’re only as good as our customers tell us on any given day. So yes it’s a moment to celebrate, but it also reminds all of us of our responsibility to deliver. As I always say, lots done, lots to do, and lots of opportunity ahead!”

The survey comes amid data that suggests M&S is poised to surpass Waitrose’s market share after winning back middle-class shoppers.
