Asda raids Morrisons for finance boss and first chief digital officer

Asda has poached two senior Morrisons executives, including CIO Matt Kelleher who will become the grocer’s first ever chief digital officer.

Kelleher, who joins Asda in July, will be responsible for the grocer’s data and ecommerce functions and will also lead its technology division once its ongoing technology transformation project ‘Future’ is complete.

He will join the grocer’s executive leadership team, led by co-owned Mohsin Issa.

Asda has also poached Morrisons commercial finance director Atheeq Akbar, who joins as VP, commercial finance in June and will report into CFO Michael Gleeson, who also moved from Morrisons last year.

Issa said: “This is an incredibly exciting time to be part of Asda as our business grows and develops for the benefit of our customers.

“Our use of data and technology transformation is a critical element of our ongoing transformation and I am delighted that we continue to attract new talent and skills as we progress this important work.”
