Tesco recalls Christmas stuffing mix as it may contain moths

Tesco has recalled its Christmas stuffing mix after finding that a batch of the product could contain the “possible presence of moths”.

The supermarket giant has issued the warning to customers over a batch of its Finest apple and cranberry stuffing mix, The Times reported.

Tesco said the 130g packets with a best-before date of September 2024 were “unfit for human consumption”.

While it is undetermined as to how the “foreign body contamination” happened, it is understood that moths could have gotten into the mix through one of the raw ingredients.

The recall notice urged shoppers: “Please do not consume this product and return it to the store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required. Tesco apologises to our customers for any inconvenience caused.”

The retailer has asked shoppers to contact customer services if they have any questions.

Food Standards Agency head of incidents Tina Potter has advised consumers to “follow the advice in the published recall notice and contact Tesco directly if they have purchased the product”.

In August, Tesco, alongside Sainsbury’s, Asda and Aldi, recalled own-label pastry products including sausage rolls and steak and ale pies over fears they may contain pieces of metal and plastic, and may be “unsafe to eat”.

Last month, the grocer also recalled batches of frozen peas that may have been contaminated with an “unknown type of berry”.
