Tesco launches pan-asian Christmas party food range

Tesco is rolling out a range of pan-asian Christmas party food to appeal to growing consumer demand.

This year, the supermarket giant is offering a selection of products including bao buns, mini keema pies, katsu chicken bites, salmon teriyaki skewers and crispy sushi rolls.

The range makeover comes as Tesco has seen shoppers turn away from traditional British party food and instead opting for thai, chinese, japanese, vietnamese and indian cuisines.

Retail analysts Mintel found that pan-asian cuisines grew by nearly 17% in the 12 months to June 2023 and since Tesco launched its £5 Finest Meal Deal at the beginning of the year, sushi sales have rocketed by 90%.

Tesco party food buyer Natalie Linden said: “Pan-asian food is very much the taste of the moment with japanese and thai among the fastest growing cuisines in the UK right now.

“This year we’ve seen really strong growth for our Finest Meal Deal which includes tasty treats like poke bowls, sushi boxes, gyozas and bao buns.

“This has really inspired our team of chefs to develop a range of mini-bite versions of some of the most popular pan-Asian dishes which we think will help create a real buzz at any festive party this year.”

This year, Tesco will have more than 90 chilled and frozen party food lines and expects nearly 75% bought across the year to be purchased in the coming two weeks leading up to Christmas.
