Waitrose is to lower the prices of 250 popular products, marking the third round of cuts at the upmarket retailer this year.

From 13 September, items including Waitrose Essential pork sausages, steak pie and porridge oats will be reduced in price by 10%, while customers will see savings of 21% on products such as British Maris Piper potatoes and penne pasta.

Waitrose commercial director, Charlotte Di Cello, said: “Giving our customers good value for money is a priority and we continue to work hard to keep our prices low, whilst maintaining our quality and supporting our fantastic farmers.

“We’ll continue to deliver our market leading quality, using our outdoor-bred pork, responsibly sourced fish, higher-welfare chicken and LEAF marque-certified British fruit and veg. The only thing that’s changing is the price, so customers can enjoy great value with no compromise.”

Di Cello added that Waitrose is also passing on additional savings to customers when the prices the supermarket pays fall due to food inflation dropping.

Earlier this year, the grocer lowered the prices of dairy products, household goods such as toilet paper, and canned vegetables as a result of inflation falling on those items.

This comes as Waitrose has launched its first lunchtime meal deal, offering a main, side and a drink across a range of products such as sandwiches, sushi, salad, wraps, fruit, cereal bars, juices and smoothies for £5.
