Aldi invites Wilko staff to apply for over 6,000 job vacancies

Aldi is calling for staff affected by the collapse of Wilko to apply for job vacancies, with more than 6,000 jobs currently available across its UK stores.

Britain’s fourth-largest supermarket, which recently announced that it is creating 800 jobs in new stores over the coming months, is also recruiting for a large volume of other store roles across the country to support its continued expansion.

The German discounter hopes to offer these retail roles to those who have lost their jobs as a result of Wilko going into administration, with a range of positions available from store assistant and caretaker all the way up to store manager.

Furthermore, Aldi colleagues are the best-paid in the UK supermarket sector. Store assistants receive starting pay of £11.40 per hour and those based in London receive £12.85 per hour, while Aldi is the only supermarket to pay for breaks which can be worth up to £972 a year.

Recruitment director at Aldi UK Kelly Stokes said: “We continue to welcome more and more customers to Aldi stores every week, and we are working hard to meet the huge demand for our unbeatable prices.

“That means finding thousands of new Aldi colleagues to support this growth, which will hopefully be of interest to those who have recently lost out due to closures elsewhere.”

It comes as the grocer has been named the cheapest UK supermarket for the fourteenth consecutive month in July, according to consumer watchdog Which?.
