Sainsbury’s to launch a free ‘Book-a-BBQ Garden’ event this summer

Sainsbury’s is launching a ‘first of its kind’ free BBQ space to offer Brits a place to enjoy lunch or dinner this summer.

The ‘Book-a-BBQ Garden’ will be located in South Bank, London and is open from 12pm to 8pm during National BBQ Week between 1 to 3 June.

The garden can be pre-booked via Design My Night for groups of up to six people, with 90 minute slots available.

On arrival, guests will be provided with a hot Weber Spirit gas barbeque and will receive a free Sainsbury’s food hamper worth up to £50.

There will be three hampers to choose from, with meat options such as beef rib and brisket burgers, plant-based Middle Eastern-style koftas and feta salad, as well as a variety of desserts and mocktails.

Sainsbury’s director of product and innovation Claire Hughes said: “Summer is a time for celebration and getting together with friends and family to enjoy delicious food. But for those who don’t have access to outside space at home, that doesn’t mean they should miss out.”

The Big 4 grocer found that 32% of Londoners don’t have the space at home to host a BBQ even though 36% wish they did.

Hughes added that through the Sainsbury’s Book-a-BBQ Garden, the supermarket is looking to to ensure “even those without their own outdoor area can still enjoy the season’s smoky BBQ flavours”.
