Del Monte and Cathedral City team up to revive cheese and pineapple Hedgehog for Coronation

Del Monte and Cathedral City have partnered up to bring back the Cheese and Pineapple Hedgehog, an iconic party food from the 80s and 90s, for the King’s Coronation this weekend.

The collaboration aims to encourage families to put their own modern twist on the classic display, to celebrate the crowning of the new British monarch.

The UK’s number one canned fruit brand and the UK’s number one cheese brand are working with creators on TikTok, including Fatima Flatt, who will be sharing their take on the 80’s classic centrepiece with their family and followers.

In January, Cathedral City launched its plant-based cheese range in Sainsbury’s and Asda, to sit alongside its current listing in Tesco.

To inspire the nation to create family-friendly party food options this bank holiday weekend, the influencers are using Cathedral City cheese and Del Monte Pineapple Chunks to create Cheese and Pineapple Hedgehog.

To support the campaign, both brands are also launching a competition across their Instagram channels that will offer their followers the chance to win a year’s supply of Del Monte Pineapple Chunks and Cathedral City cheese.

“Our collaboration with Cathedral City is the perfect way to show the versatility of our products by creating a modern take on a classic,” senior commercial director for Del Monte® UK and Europe, Martin Tilney said.

“Working with influencers to bring to life the classic Cheese and Pineapple Hedgehog in a fun and family-friendly way, shows consumers how to include great tasting party food into their celebrations.”

Head of marketing of cheese at Saputo Dairy UK, Neil Stewart commented: “Combining Cathedral City’s much-loved creamy cheddar with Del Monte’s quality canned pineapple is the perfect party pairing for cheese and pineapple fans.”

He added: “We are very proud to be partnering with some of TikTok’s most exciting families to inspire the nation to try their hand at creating the Cheese and Pineapple Hedgehog as we celebrate a monumental moment in our history.”
