Just Eat to replace corporate sales fleet with 100% electric vehicles by 2025

Just Eat is replacing its corporate sales fleet, which currently consists of 175 diesel vehicles, with electric vehicles by 2025.

The sales team, which works with 68,000 restaurants and grocers across the UK, is set to use CUPRA BORN and Volkswagen ID.3 cars.

This is part of the company’s wider sustainability strategy, which also includes carbon labelling and has involved supporting Veganuary and work on food waste with the charity Hubbub.

The update comes after the food delivery service said that it hopes to transition its entire corporate and sales car fleet to 100% electric vehicles by 2030.

“Our sales team is committed to providing services to restaurant partners up and down the UK and by replacing all our vehicles with electric vehicles, we are further reducing greenhouse gases and protecting our environment for future generations,” said UK sales director Leigh Phillips.

Just Eat is not the only company looking to electrify its food services – in August 2022 Tesco became the first supermarket to use battery powered delivery lorries. Amazon also expanded its e-cargo delivery fleet across Manchester at the end of last year.

A recent report from Allied Market Research projected that the electric commercial vehicle market could reach $558.4 billion by 2031.

Two years ago Just Eat committed to becoming Net Zero across its scope one and two emissions (direct emissions and emissions from purchased energy) by 2030.

At the time the company’s ceo Jitse Groen described the net zero commitment as “only the beginning”.
