Coronation weekend: How supermarkets and brands are celebrating King Charles III

As excitement grows for the upcoming coronation of their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, the UK’s supermarket giants and FMCG brands are rolling out new ranges and products to celebrate the  historic occasion.

Taking place on Saturday 6 May – and with bank holidays on either side of the weekend – even the staunchest of anti-royalists will be making the most of the four-day celebrations.

So from sweet treats to souvenir tins, afternoon tea staples and (of course) alcohol, Grocery Gazette has rounded up what limited-edition food and drink product will be taking centre stage at the street parties and celebrations taking place across the UK.

Tesco

The UK’s leading retailer has unveiled a new range of food and homeware to mark the occasion, including the Tesco Finest Coronation King Prawn sandwich, which is the latest addition to its Premium Meal Deal, alongside a Coronation Chicken offering.

Across its selection of sweet treats, Tesco has launched a Coronation tin of all-butter shortbread petticoat tails, as well as a limited-edition raspberry and peach bellini trifle and a classic Victoria sponge celebration cake.

In addition to its commemorative crockery and dinnerware, Tesco is also rolling out a coronation-inspired teapot, a cup and saucer, a mug, a stemless glass, serving plates, a cake stand and cake tins, oven gloves and tea towels ranging from £3.50 to £12.

Waitrose

Upmarket retailer Waitrose has launched an afternoon tea selection, which features a chocolate Jewel the Jack Russell cake, all-butter scones with Coronation mixed berry and Bramley apple preserve, and Duchy Organic all-butter shortbread biscuits that have been embossed with a crown.

Duchy Organic Assam and Kenyan teas will also be sold in a dedicated Coronation caddy at £6 for 50 tea bags, alongside Silent Pool gin in a Coronation edition bottle £45, and its Leckford Estate Brut featuring a bespoke necktie for £29.99.

A £15 King’s Coronation bouquet will also be available with flowers in jewel tones, including British tulips from its Foundation farms in Kenya.

Iceland

Frozen food retailer, Iceland is offering Coronation chicken yorkshire puddings and Coronation chicken pies, as well as its party food offer where shoppers can pick up three items for £5.

Some of the celebratory nibbles included in the deal are cheese and garlic bites, mozzerella sticks, tempura prawns and chocolate eclairs.

Across its sweet selection, Iceland is rolling out luxury strawberry and cream roulade and a trifle gateau bar.

Morrisons

Morrisons has launched a new crown-shaped pork pie for £6.50.

Wighing 800g, the pie serves six people and is filled with 100% British pork.

The Pork Pie Crown will be available in-store from 29 April at the deli counter on Market Street until 8 May.

Aldi

To mark the celebrations, discount grocer Aldi has launched limited-edition versions of its plushie, Kevin the Carrot. The royal-themed toy will be available in a Charles or Camilla version for £3.99 each.

Sensations

Walkers’ premium crisps range Sensations is launching two new limited-edition flavours to celebrate the coronation.

The classic British-inspired offerings include ‘King prawn cocktail’ and ‘Regal lamb and mint’.

Available until the end of the Coronation weekend, the range is rolling out in 150g sharing bags at RRP £2.50 and 65g price marked packs for £1.25.

Cadbury

Cadbury and Fry’s are launching four limited-edition bars across the Dairy Milk, Bournville and Fry’s Creams ranges.

The Cadbury Dairy Milk purple packaging will receive a royal-inspired redesign with a white crown emblem, while the Bourneville bar in 180g tablets and Fry’s Cream and Turkish Delight multipacks will also feature new designs.

Premier Foods

Premier Foods has introduced limited-edition Mr Kipling mixes and icing across its Victoria Sponge Cake Mix, Classic Scone Cake Mix, Chocolate Cupcake Mix and Vanilla Flavour Buttercream Style Icing.

To celebrate, the food manufacturer is also running on-pack takeovers across its Mr Kipling core cake range, Bisto traditional gravy granuels, Ambosia Custard cans and Rice Pudding cans, Bird’s Custard Powder drum and Strawberry Trifle Kit.

Krispy Kreme

Krispy Kreme has launched a new range of limited-edition doughnuts, the ‘Coronation Dozen’ to mark upcoming celebrations.

Each box contains three Original Glazed, three King’s Trifle doughnuts, three Berry Bakewell doughnuts and three Lemon Shortbread doughnuts.

Priced at £20.95, the offerings will be available from 1 to 8 May across the bakery company’s retail shops, as well as via supermarkers, motor service cabinets and its delivery partners.

Nature’s Finest

Premium potted fruit brand, Nature’s Finest has launched a limited edition 400g Mango in juice to acknowledge the Coronation of King Charles III.

Describing the product as ‘the King of fruits’, the product is available in Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Co-op at RRP £1.90.

Reese’s

Reece’s is launching a limited-edition milk chocolate and peanut butter product, Reese’s Crowns.

Retailing for £3.30, the packs will be available in Tesco stores.

Birds Bakery

Birds Bakery has launched a range of 10 coronation-themed goods, including gingerbread crowns, chocolate lollies, fondant cupcakes, frosted cupcakes and crown pork pies.

For £25, the bakery is also offering a ‘Tea Party for two’, which includes pork pies, quiche, shortbread crowns, chocolate, scones and jam.

Other sweet and savoury gift packages and food selections can be found via Birds Bakery, ranging in price from £10 to £45.

Virgin Wines

Virgin Wines has unveiled a limited-edition, commemorative sparkling brut, hand-crafted in the South Downs, Sussex.

The wine includes a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and features flavours including apple, lemon zest, spice and toasted, buttered brioche.

The product can be found exclusively at the wine retailer for £34.99.

Chapel Down

Chapel Down has launched a limited edition English sparkling wine to commemorate the coronation, with all profits donated to the Royal British Legion.

The wine producer has released 2,000 bottles in special edition packaging, which includes a union jack flag design imprinted on the front label and the official coronation logo printed on the neck label.

The wine is a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier from Kent and has been aged on lees for five and a half years.

The £65 wine will be stocked at Harvey Nichols, Fenwick and Hedonism Wines.

Silent Pool

British gin distillers, Silent Pool has released a coronation gin in a limited-edition commemorative bottle.

Available exclusively at Waitrose, the product boasts a new recipe created using infusions of King Charles’ favourite Surrey botanicals, plants and flowers.

The gin includes notes of bergamot orange, rose petals, lavender and chamomile, as well as dried plum and raspberry leaves, earl grey tea and hawthorn berries.
