Former Co-op boss to join Tesco supplier as new chief executive

Former Co-op CEO, Steve Murrells has been appointed chief executive at Tesco supplier, Hilton Foods.

The food manufacturer, which supplies meat and ready-to-eat meals to supermakets, including Big 4 grocer Tesco, has said that Murrells will be taking over the role from Philip Heffer on 3 July, according to reporting by Reuters.

Murrells was CEO of Co-op for five years before he stepped down from the role in May last year.

His position at the conveience retailer was filled by Shirine Khoury-Haq, who had previously been Co-op’s chief financial officer.

Prior to his time at Co-op, Murrells held positions at Tesco as commercial director for fresh food and as chief operating officer for Dobbies Garden Centre.

In October 2022, he was also appointed the position of non-executive board director for Noble Foods, working alongside the poultry giant’s board and executive team to drive the growth of the business, brands and innovation.
