Chocolate, cheese and hot cross buns: The 2023 Easter product round-up

As Easter is fast approaching, the UK’s leading supermarkets are rolling out a whole host of treats from classic chocolate eggs to cheese alternatives.

Looking to spice up celebrations this April, FMCG giant Heinz looks to challange tastebuds with the launch of its limited edition Hot Cross Bun flavoured mayonnaise.

However, many brands and retailers are also offering the traditional favourites that we know and love at this time of year.

We take a look at what you can find across the supermarket shelves in the coming week…

Morrisons Cheese Easter eggs

Bringing a savoury twist to the classic Easter egg, Morrisons has launched two new offerings made entirely of cheese.

Available in Lancashire & Cheddar, and Stratford Blue Soft Cheese, the eggs are handmade using British produce.

Each will be available for £5 from 29 March in stores and online, and available for £4 for My Morrisons customers as of 10 April.

These will join the grocery retailer’s wider Easter egg range, which includes a dark chocolate and rapberry egg, a Belgian chocolate and orange egg, a white and blonde chocolate egg and a salted caramel and honeycomb egg, each priced at £6.

Tesco’s biggest ever chocolate egg range

For 2023, the UK’s leading retailer has unveiled its largest ever chocolate egg range, which includes 48 exclusive options.

In time for 9 April, there will be 245 chocolate treats available in-store and online, with options starting from £1.

Tesco will be offering new options from big-name brands including Mars, Lidnt, and Terry’s, as well as more then 15 options for plant-based shoppers, such as Wicked Kitchen’s salted caramel flavoured chocolate egg and the Tesco Free From Popping Candy and Mallow Chocolate Bar.

Other than chocolate, the supermarket giant is also offering hot cross buns in Extra Fruity, Apple and Cinnamon, Chocolate and Orange, and salted caramel flavours.

Asda ‘s chick-themed range

Big 4 grocer Asda has launched nine new chick-themed Easter bakery offerings starting at 65p.

The selection includes a £6 Chick Cake which includes yellow fondant, madeira sponge, as well as sweet plum and rapberry jam, and buttercream, as well as a £4.50 chocolate Chick Easter Log, an Easter Cupcake Platter and a lemon flavoured Chick Cake Jar for £3.50.

A Gingerbread Chick can be purchased for 65p, along with Chick Cookie Cups at £3.50 for a pack of four, a £6 cheekecake, twin “cracked egg” cheesecakes and a Crushed Egg Donut.

Extending the theme to some of its savoury items, Asda has also created a novelty shaped chick pizza available until 8 April at in-store pizza counters and online.

The pizza can be purchased with a range of toppings for £3.50.

Aldi ‘s largest ever kids Easter egg range

Aldi has gone all out this April, having launched its biggest kids Easter range starting from 49p.

The selection includes the Dairyfine Giant Crocodile Egg for £9.99, the Dairyfine Gaming Egg with popping candy for £5.99 and Dairyfine Chocolate Sundaes for £8.99 in White Chocolate Strawberry and Milk Chocolate Fudge.

The discount grocer will also be launching a luxury range which includes a Wildflower Egg made from Belgian milk chocolate, Milk Gianduja and Breselienne, as well as a new Moser Roth Luxury Egg and Truffles, and a Choceur Rocky Road Drizzle Egg.

Aldi is also celebrating the return of its Easter desserts range which features a Hot Cross Bun Pudding and Oozy Egg Trifle, with a new addition of Oozy Egg Ice Creams.

Aldi has also unveiled its hot cross buns in flavours Jaffa and Biscoff inspired caramelised biscuit, alongside a Giant Chocolate Orange Hot Cross Bun which retails at £3.99 and measures seven inches in diameter.

Waitrose Ribbon Easter eggs

Upmarket retailer Waitrose has brought back its Sunny Side Sam chocolate fried egg back this Easter, alongisde its chocolate bunny, Hip Hop Harri and new addition, a milk chocolate tortiose shell, Take it Slow Boe.

Ribbon Easter Eggs have been added to this year’s confectionary offerings in caramel, orange and raspberry flavours, as well as two types of fudge in chocolate marshmallow and carrot cake.

Heston Blumenthal has also added a new ‘The Chocolate Dabbit’ to the Heston from Waitrose range, which features a dark chocolate shell filled with salted blonde chocolate truffle.

Across its bakery products, Waitrose is set to offer Luxury Hot Cross Buns, Mature Cheddar and Stout Hot Cross Buns, Chocolate and Orange Panettone and a Carrot Patch Cake.

M&S’ Choc Corn and hot cross buns

M&S has rolled out new Fried Egg Choc Corn for Easter which features sweet and salted toffee popcorn, smothered in white chocolate and topped with a salted caramel filled ‘yolk’.

Also jumping on the flavoured hot cross buns trend this year, the retailer has launched a new Banoffee inspired take on the traditional delicacy, available for £2 at online-only supermarket, Ocado.


Love Cocoa’s eco-friendly eggs

Luxury sustainable chocolate brand, Love Cocoa has extended its Easter offering to include two marbled eggs in salted caramel and strawberries and cream.

Available from Love Cocoa, John Lewis and Liberty, the eggs are palm oil free and handmade in Great Britain.

Its Easter collection also features a giant 41% milk chocolate egg, petite praline chocolate eggs, a Maldon sea salt dark chocolate egg and a limited edition easter bunnycomb bar.

The offerings range from £4.50 to £40.

H!P’s oat milk chocolate eggs

Oat milk chocolate brand H!P has launched new plant-based eggs in Cookies No Cream and Salty Pretzel, each with an RRP of £10.

These will join its current salted caramel egg offering, as well as new peanut butter Bunny bites which feature oat milk chocolate truffles with a peanut butter filling.

Happi’s oat milk Easter egg bars

Oat milk chocolate brand, Happi is also rolling out themed products, including its new Easter egg-shaped bars.

Available in plain milk, salted honeycomb and white raspberry, the bars RRP at £6.49 each.
