Proper snacks launches new HFSS-compliant popcorn flavour

Proper Snacks is launching two new popcorn flavours, one of which is moving into its exclusive HFSS-compliant range as it continues to champion taste-led innovation in ‘better-for-you’ snacking.

The new popcorn flavours – Sweet Cinnamon and Sweet – are launching in response to consumer demands for healthier yet tasty snacking options, as the brand continues to lead the industry by driving 57% of the popcorn category growth.

The latest additions cement Proper Snacks as Europe’s largest independent healthier snack brand, with over 50% of its full range now compliant with current HFSS rules.

However, only the Sweet flavour is HFSS-compliant, while the Sweet Cinnamon is not.

The new flavours will launch in Asda and Ocado from this month, and will be debuting in Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Tesco later in the year.

Both sell for an RRP of £1.80 (100g), are under 126kcal per serve and are high in fibre, vegan, and gluten-free. Sweet cinnamon boasts 37% less sugar than the market leader, whilst classic sweet has 24% less sugar.

“Sweet has always been the hallmark of the category. The fact that we’ve been able to develop our best-ever recipe for it, whilst also making it compliant, is something the team should be really proud of,” founder of Proper Snacks, Cassandra Stavrou explained.

“Sweet Cinnamon is so delicious. It only lasts a few seconds in our office and we can’t wait for it to hit the shelves.”

She added: “We’re excited to launch these new additions, based on classic, nostalgic and indulgent flavour profiles which we know snackers love.”

Head of Brand at Proper Snacks, Bridget Hirst also commented: “The launches really compliment our existing range of healthier, great tasting, vegan popcorn.”

Last month, Mondelēz launched Cadbury’s first-ever range of HFSS-compliant non-high in fat, salt or sugar treats – Cadbury Dairy Milk Fruitier and Nuttier.
