Le Pain Quotidien to expand in UK with new franchise model

Belgian bakery and café chain, Le Pain Quotidien is set to expand its offerings across the UK with a new franchise model.

According to reporting by World Coffee Portal, the company which currently operates 10 sites in the UK, has partnered with franchise consultancy Platinum Wave to develop its single and multi-unit franchises.

Le Pain Quotidien CEO, Annick Van Overstraeten said that the move comes as there is a “real appetite from existing franchise operators.”

Also operating 220 stores across 15 countries, in the UK, the company has restaurants in London-based locations including St. Pancras, Marylebone, Hyde Park, Mayfair, Covent Garden, South Kensington, Southbank, Monument and Parsons Green, as well as a site in The Westgate Centre, Oxford.

For its new locations, Le Pain Quotidien is set to target ‘cathedral and large university sites’ due to these areas typically having international communities and established premium businesses such as upmarket retailer, Waitrose.

Last year, the company also expanded into UK supermarkets, signing a retail agreement with distributor Taste Shakers to roll out branded products in grocery retailers Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Morrisons and Waitrose.
