The boss of Greencore has said price negotiations with supermarkets have become “so strained” amid soaring inflation that sometimes walking away is the only option.
Greencore CEO Dalton Phillips, who has held the position since September 2022, said: “In certain cases we’ve said to people ‘If you’re not prepared to take this price, we’re not prepared to supply you.
“In fact, we’ve just done that with a very large customer,” he revealed on the company’s annual meeting on Thursday.

Philips, who previously ran Morrisons supermarket in the UK, declined to name the supermarket but claimed there is a “real pressure in the supply chain.”
This follows on from Tesco and Heinz’s public feud, which saw the the Big 4 grocer stripped of Heinz products after the FMCG giant paused supply to the retailer over ongoing price disputes.
After resolving their public spat weeks after, earlier this year, the FMCG giant is raising its prices for the second time in less than a year, despite the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
