Yorkshire-based start-up, Overherd is launching the UK’s first oat milk powder in a bid to make plant-based milk even more sustainable.
This comes as store bought plant milks contain over 90% water which as a result, adds a large amount of weight and packaging requirements to products.
The ‘just add water’ solution allows consumers to add water at home to reduce the need for bulky packaging, with Overherd rolling out its oat milk powder in a lightweight, recyclable pouch.

The product which launched today (27 January) is available via Overherd’s website.
“Plant milk is a bit like blackcurrant squash – it wouldn’t make sense to buy squash pre-mixed. It would be super bulky and packaging intensive – we think the same applies to plant milk, which is why we focus on the oat concentrate, the part that provides the flavour and nutrition,” Overherd founder, Sandy Eyre said.
“Oat milk is 90% water, so we focus on the 10% that isn’t water, the bit that contains all the flavour, texture, and nutrients. Users add the water at home instead, which saves packaging, carbon emissions and food waste.
“The environmental impact of dairy production is becoming more well known, and it’s great to see so many switching to plant milks. However, we think you can do one better in terms of sustainability.”
