As Christmas coincides with the cost-of-living crisis this year, one in five households plan to use an airfryer when cooking dinner on the big day to save money, new research suggests.
According to a survey of 2,000 UK adults comissioned by Waitrose and its parent company John Lewis, a further 18% look to spend less by using a microwave to cook Christmas dinner, while 15% will be serving cold desserts.
Also looking to lower the cost of Christmas dinner staples, the upmarket retailer found that stuffing, gravy, mince pies, bread sauce, canapes, brandy butter and cranberry sauce are the most popular foods people are planning to make themseleves.

While Brits are looking to cut back on costs, traditional festive activities including eating mince pies, buying cheese and leaving food and drink out for Father Christmas were found as the least likely to be cut back on.
Drinking alcohol came close to the top of the priority list as respondents said they were most looking forward to prosecco and red wine on the big day.
Others said they would be drinking white wine, beer and bucks fizz, while non-alcoholic drinks such as Coke were also found to be popular choices.
Despite being traditional Christmas beverages, just 9% said they want mulled wine and only 4% expect to be drinking Eggnog.
This year, Waitrose has added more vegan products to its Christmas range than ever before as searches for ‘Vegan Christmas Food’ across its website surged by 188% earlier this month.
The supermarket giant has also seen orders for vegan and vegetarian lines increase by 49% compared to last year, which is only predicted to increase further.
