Tesco Clubcard named best supermarket rewards scheme

Leading retailer Tesco has been crowned the supermarket offering the best reward scheme with its Clubcard loyalty programme.

The research from financial experts Moneyboat.co.uk studied grocery retailers including Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrisons, Lidl, Waitrose, M&S, Co-op and Iceland, scoring Tesco the highest for its benefits at 99 out of 100.

Ranked on factors including if exclusive discounts are offered, the schemes points, coupons, personalisations and petrol savings, the Big 4 grocer was also found to have the highest customer satisfaction score at 3.82 out of five.

Sainsbury’s took second spot with its Nectar points scheme, followed by Co-op, Asda and Lidl.

Morrisons and Waitrose ranked the lowest with a total score of 40 out of 100, with both losing out in eight of the 13 categories for not having select perks that others offered.

Meanwhile frozen food retailer Iceland was found to be the only supermarket providing free delivery as part of its reward scheme.

As part of this research, Moneyboat.co.uk also looked into the benefits that customers find important with the most highly sought after being exclusive immediate discounts on products for 38% of the surveys 3,576 participants.

Instant money off vouchers were also important to 27% with other benefits including personalised rewards, the ability to gather points, savings on fuel, rewards that can be used at other shops and free delivery or click and collect.

This comes as 64% of consumers have changed their attitude to loyalty as a result of increased rising inflation in the last 12 months and grocery insight provider IGD has suggested that the cost of food and drink is expected to continue to rise into next year.

Earlier this week it said the rate of grocery inflation could reach a peak of 17 – 19% in early 2023 before beginning to slow down over the coming 12 months.
