Mars launches new Kind snack bar packaging to reduce plastic waste

Mars has unveiled new packaging across its range of Kind snack bars which will now incorporate recycled content made from advanced recycling.

As a result of the change, this packaging will also contain less virgin plastic than its previous model.

Having been designed for maximum circularity, the snack bar wrappers made in partnership with SABIC, Landbell, Plastic Energy, Taghleef and SIT, will now be eligible for drop-off recycling across the UK and kerbside recycling in Ireland.

This comes as part of Mars’ aim to reduce its use of new virgin plastic by 25% and incorporating 30% recycled content into its plastic packaging. The food manufacturer also looks to redesign over 12,000 packaging components across its portfolio to comply with the current recycling infrastructure.

Kind Snacks UK general manager, Peter Morris added: “At Kind, we are committed to making our packaging as sustainable as it can be. This announcement marks the latest milestone towards achieving this vision, and we look forward to driving further positive and long-lasting changes to our packaging in the future.”
