Tesco is collaborating with Ikea in a new test-and-trial to expand the Swedish furniture giant’s existing Collect Near You offering, providing customers with more ”convenient and affordable” furniture collection services across the UK.
The Collect Near You service will launch in Blackburn on 10 October, followed by a gradual rollout in other sites including Doncaster, Cambridge, Dereham, Bolton, Stockport, and Liverpool later this year.
Designed to offer customers the option of collecting Ikea furniture from within their local Tesco car park, the new partnership will offer this service for all orders over £200.
When placing an order online, customers can select the ‘Collect Near You’ option for their local Tesco.
Following Ikea click and collect signage in Tesco carparks, customers will arrive at a designated pick-up point at their chosen date and time and meet with a delivery driver and vehicle who will hand over their order.
The Swedish retailer said the pilot with the UK’s leading supermarket will run for an initial period of six months and is being trialled in Denmark and Portugal.
“We are proud to be collaborating with Tesco to test-and-trial more convenient, accessible, and affordable collection services in the UK across a number of key locations,” Ikea fulfilment and multichannel network manager UK & Ireland Julie Carr said.
She added: “This collaboration recognises that in an ever-changing retail environment, there is an opportunity to work together to bring IKEA closer to the many people.”
