Coca-Cola extends attached caps across 500ml bottles to prevent waste

Coca-Cola Great Britain is set to extend attached caps across its 500ml bottles in a bid to improve recycling rates and prevent waste.

Rolling out across Coca-Cola brands including Coca-Cola Original Taste, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Diet Coke and Fanta Zero, the new design will keep the cap connected to the bottle once opened.

This follows on from the company’s initial launch in May which saw 1.5L bottles of Fanta, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar and Diet Coke made with attached caps.

Although all bottles across the Coca-Cola brands are already 100% recyclable, the packaging revamp looks to ensure the entire product is easier to recycle, with no parts being discarded or littered.

The move forms part of the soft drink manufacturer‘s World Without Waste commitment which will also see the company collecting and recycling a bottle or can for every one sold by 2025.

Looking to roll out its attached caps even further, Coca-Cola has said all of its brands and pack sizes will feature the redesign by early 2024.

“This small but significant change helps to ensure that when consumers recycle our bottles, the caps stay attached and don’t get left behind as litter,” Coca-Cola Great Britain general manager, Jon Woods said.

“We know consumers in Great Britain want to dispose of packaging in the right way, and we want to help them do that. We’re pleased to share this change, and we will continue to innovate and create more sustainable ways to enjoy our products.”
