Snappy Shopper’s 1p packed lunch initiative, which ran from 21 to 22 August, has seen over 3,600 of the packages sold.
In a bid to help parents across Scotland with rising food prices during the cost-of-living crisis, the campaign looked to help feed children returning to school as the summer holidays come to an end.
The packed lunches featured items such as bread, cold meat, crisps, yoghurts, fruit including apples and oranges, and juices at a promotional price of 1p.
Available across 150 Scottish c-stores, the ‘back to school’ initiative which was on offer via the grocery delivery service‘s app has since seen thousands snapping up the deal.

“We’re proud to have worked in partnership with our retailers on this promotion. We’re happy that over 3,600 families were able to take advantage of the offer,” Snappy Shopper co-founder, Scott Campbell told The Grocer.
The campaign came in response to the continuing cost-of-living crisis which has seen 40% of consumers having to scale back on spending with 31% no longer able to afford to continue buying from all of the brands they would usually shop from, according to a recent survey by Ello.
Low-income families have been one of the group’s hit hardest by rising inflation levels. A survey in June by The Joseph Rowntree Foundation found 60% of respondents had gone without essentials since the start of 2022 and had cut down on, skipped meals or gone hungry in the previous 30 days.
