Nisa’s independent retailers have saved 100,000 meals from going to waste since partnering with surplus food app Too Good To Go in 2019.
The milestone was achieved through the anti-food waste company’s ‘Magic Bag’ programme, which allows customers to buy products that are damaged or approaching their use-by date at a vastly reduced cost.
The exact contents of each £3.50 ‘Magic Bag’ remain unknown until they are collected, but each one is guaranteed to contain contain at least £10 worth of groceries.

Every week over 1,000 meals are saved across Nisa stores with recent figures showing more than 1,300 being saved weekly.
With 300 Nisa stores now signed up to the app, the symbol group say the latest figure equates to a saving of 250 tonnes of CO2.
“Every Nisa store that has so far partnered with Too Good To Go have given positive feedback about how simple the app is to use and the impact on the local community,” said Nisa’s partnership lead with Too Good To Go, Ian Bacon.
He added: “We are all very aware of the cost-of-living crisis and the Too Good To Go app is one way that Nisa retailers can offer support to their shoppers really effectively.”
