Tesco and Asda launch Christmas plans in July

Asda and Tesco have kicked off the Christmas season six months early, aiming to prepare customers for the expensive holiday as the cost-of-living crisis bites.

In changing the way its shoppers collect their Clubcard vouchers, Tesco has launched its latest print advert, advising its customers to prepare for their Christmas shop in July.

The ‘What the jingle bell’ ad promotes the Big 4 grocer‘s new initiative which has allowed Clubcard holders to save their vouchers throughout the year.

With the card’s final top-up date being 19 October, all vouchers will be received in November just in time for the Christmas period.

Wanting to help customers “spread the cost,” according to the ad’s slogan, Tesco is also offering a maximum £12 bonus per year for top-ups between £25 and £369.

“With the average weekly shop for a family of four costing £99.40, shoppers could save at least 1,292 in points if they start saving today, which is the equivalent of £12.92, or an extra present under the tree,” a Tesco spokesperson said.

Asda is also preparing its shoppers for the festive season as it has announced many of its products set to appear in stores later this year.

From chocolate baubles and giant mince pies, the grocer is offering 740 products in its Christmas range including 61 Vegan Society approved items and 51 Free From products.

Also catering to a younger demographic, customers can expect to see a variety of sweet treats under the theme of Asda’s 2022 novelty character, Jingle the Reindeer.

Asda acting chief customer officer, Sam Dickson said: “Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a little indulgence… and whilst 2022 continues to be a difficult year for many, the festive season presents an opportunity to take joy and comfort from the smallest pleasures, spending time in great company, with great food.

“We know that this year more than ever, families will be looking at ways to make their money go further, but that they don’t want to compromise on taste.

“Our amazing colleagues have been working incredibly hard all year to bring customers our biggest and most innovative range yet, delivering fantastic quality products at all price points, and we can’t wait to help shoppers make Christmas 2022 an utterly magic one!”
