Waitrose sees rise in sales ahead of Queens Jubilee

Waitrose has reported an increase in sales ahead of the bank holiday weekend for the Queen’s Jubilee.

According to Waitrose Entertaining, it has seen a 30% increase in sales as customers look to host Jubilee-themed events at home.

Picnic food sales have also increased, with sales of savoury pastry up by 14%, compared to the same period last year, alongside quiche sales increasing by 20% compared to last week.

Customers are also searching waitrose.com ahead of their Jubilee plans, according to the grocer.

This follows a 60% increase in customers searching the term ‘Jubilee’ , as searches for ‘Jubilee cakes’, ‘afternoon tea’ and ‘the perfect victoria sponge’ increased by 165%, 31% and 176%, respectively.

Waitrose’s Diamond Jubilee strawberry crumble crunch recipe searches increased up 875% and Easy polka-dot Jubilee cake searches soared by 962%, it revealed.

At John Lewis, sales of Jubilee products have tripled in the last week with sales up 208% compared to the week before.

“With Waitrose Entertaining sales up 30% compared to last month, it’s clear many of us are looking to save time in the kitchen over the upcoming bank holiday and maximise the time spent with loved ones,” Waitrose entertaining buyer Emma Malden said.

“Whether it’s sandwiches for a street party or cakes for a celebratory afternoon tea, our Waitrose Entertaining range has something for every Royal occasion.”
