Higgidy appoints first sustainability manager

Fresh food manufacturer Higgidy has hired Megan Welch as its first sustainability manager.

Welch joins from Kent County Council where she held the position of environmental engagement and behaviour change manager.

According to Welch’s LinkedIn page, she has over 10 years experience in corporate sustainability, working across environmental initiatives and compliance, stakeholder engagement, communications and charity partnerships.

She spent just over six years at Virgin Atlantic from 2014, starting off as a sustainability assistant, before being promoted to sustainability executive. Most recently, she held the position of business for good executive at the airline.

Prior to that she was a sustainability specialist at Canon.

Higgidy is currently stocked in Ocado, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Morrisons and The Vegan Kind.

The news comes as it was revealed sustainability concerns are already influencing where customers do their grocery shopping, according to a new TWC data report.

The report revealed, over four in 10 respondents agreed with this statement – and almost half said that it will have a stronger influence in the future.
