Sainsbury’s unveils Carluccio’s fresh range nationwide

Sainsbury’s is set to exclusively stock Carluccio’s restaurant inspired dishes in 300 stores nationwide. 

The Italian multi-channel brand founded by the late Antonio Carluccio will release a range of fresh ready meals including chilled pizzas, pastas and sauces. 

The six ready-meal options will be Beef and Chianti Lasagne, Roasted Mushroom Tagliatelle and 12-inch pizzas from Margherita to Prosciutto Crudo & Mozzarella.

Partnered with Italian pasta brand Bertangi, the launch will also include three fresh pasta variants – Raviolo, Mezzelune and Girasoli with two stir-in sauce options. 

Additionally, Carluccio has introduced a new ready meal packaging format where the card tray can be easily removed from the film liner for 100% recyclability. 

The film weight also uses 80% less plastic compared to a normal cPET tray in a bid to maintain Carluccio’s green energy and renewable sources policy from 2019. 

The Italian brand has also been certified as carbon neutral by Carbon Neutral Britain after offsetting all of its direct emissions. 

Its sustainability mission also coincides with Sainsbury’s target of net-zero emissions in its own operations by 2035.

“We know our customers are looking for inspiration, fresh and convenient meals to brighten up their meal times; this brand partnership is the perfect way to deliver that point of difference and we’re excited for them to arrive in stores.” 

The news comes as Sainsbury’s reshuffled its management earlier this month and hired McColl’s chief commercial officer Richard Crampton as director of fresh food and food services. 

The Carluccio products will be available in Sainsbury’s from 26 January with RRP ranging from £2.80 for 12” pizzas to £6.50 for pasta meals that serve two.
