Freshways switch out plastic for carbon-neutral cartons

British dairy wholesale company, Freshways, has partnered with Elopak to unveil its new Love Milk range set to launch in carbon-neutral Pure-Pak cartons.

The independent family-run company plans to install two filling machines for the new cartons at Freshways’s Southampton based factory, with plans to install two more lines as further milk products switch from plastic bottles to carbon-neutral cartons.

“With all of the problems around plastic now is the time to switch to cartons,” Freshways managing director Bali Nijjar said.

“Elopak supported the move with technical and design advice and provided cartons with many environmental benefits. Our cartons will be carbon neutral, fully recyclable and made with paperboard sourced from FSC certified forests plus caps based on renewable PE.”

Nijjar added: “We are bringing cartons onto the market in answer to the UK government plans to introduce a plastic packaging tax in 2022 amidst growing environmental concerns.

“It is our responsibility as a major dairy supplier to the UK to help reduce the damage to the environment from plastic waste, and with the support of Elopak, we will do this one milk carton at a time. Love milk and Love the planet.”

The news comes after Big 4 grocer, Morrisons, introduced the sustainable Pure-Pak cartons to its 100% juice range in November 2021 to over 450 stores across the UK.elopak

  • I thought you had switched to recyclable cartons. I received my milk in a plastic bottle. I can’t find where it says the bottles are recyclable. Can you help please? Many thanks. Anna Dann.
