Aldi and Tony’s Chocolonely partner in a UK supermarket first

Aldi has announced the launch of a brand-new chocolate bar in partnership with Tony’s Chocolonely in a UK supermarket first.  

The product, Cocoeur Choco Changer, is set to be released as a specialbuy in Aldi stores across the country from September 19th and is Fairtrade certified.    

The confectionary range comes in three flavours, featuring salted caramel, 70 per cent dark chocolate and hazelnut.  

According to the discounter, the chocolate for its new variety is 100 per cent responsibly sourced.

The retailer joined Tony’s Open Chain in December 2020 and has adopted its five sourcing principles which facilitates a “transparent and traceable” supply chain in support of cocoa farmers in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. 

“The collaboration with Tony’s Chocolonely is a UK supermarket first, and we’re delighted to be able to offer this product to our customers,” Aldi managing director of corporate responsibility Mary Dunn. 

“As a member of Tony’s Open Chain, we’re committed to doing all we can to support the cocoa supply chain, ensuring transparency for farmers in West Africa. 

“By choosing the Choco Changer, shoppers are getting a chocolate bar while also doing their bit to support hard-working cocoa farmers.” 

Tony’s Chocolonely head of impact Paul Schoenmakers added: “We’re proud to welcome Aldi as a new mission ally. 

“Together, we take responsibility for the chocolate industry to drive structual change towards a more equally divided cocoa chain.”
