Sainsbury’s encourages masks after July 19

Sainsbury’s has encouraged shoppers to keep wearing masks after July 19.   

The Big 4 grocer said that the safety measures such as perspex screens and hand sanitiser stations will remain in stores after the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted on Freedom Day this Monday.  

The supermarket will introducing new signs and tannoy messages in its stores to ask customers to maintain social distancing practices and wear a face covering.  

All Sainsbury’s employees will continue to wear masks, as well as members of the supermarket’s leadership team when visiting stores.

“As we respond to the recent change in government guidance, we know that safety is still top of mind for many of our colleagues and customers,” Sainsbury’s chief executive Simon Roberts said.  

“Our colleagues’ safety is vital and many of our colleagues would feel more comfortable if those who can wear face coverings continue to wear them.  

“We’re asking everyone to be consideration and, while we understand wearing a face covering will now be a personal choice, we want to ensure we best support and protect each other in the weeks and months ahead.”
