Waitrose is set to cancel its Rapid delivery service by the end of May to focus on its Deliveroo partnership.
After teaming up with Deliveroo last September, Waitrose executives felt its Rapid service had become redundant with “lots of overlap” between the two businesses.
The supermarket launched Rapid in 2018, which delivers groceries within 20 hours for a flat fee of £5.

A Waitrose spokesperson claimed that Deliveroo could deliver “in as little as 20 minutes” and would allow it to “reach more customers in more areas.”
He added that the grocer would prioritise its Deliveroo expansion in London and Hove – where Rapid is still available – to ensure customers have “an alternative convenience service”.
Last month, Waitrose announced a two-year deal to quadruple the numbers of stores offering Deliveroo in response to the grocery e-commerce boom.
The supermarket is creating 400 jobs to support the expansion.
