Tesco has increased its charity drive for shoppers using self-service checkouts, with customers being asked if they would like to make an additional donation before they pay.
The new policy from the UK’s largest supermarket will last until 2 October and is being introduced as part of the retailer’s ongoing commitment to charity. The move will see all customers using self-service checkouts being asked if they would like to round up their purchase to the nearest pound as a donation to one of three charities.
They include leading health charities in the UK, such as: Cancer Research UK, the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK.
“The funds raised will continue to support the health of UK communities at such a critical time. Our health charity partners rely on donations to continue their awareness, prevention and research work,” head of health campaigns at Tesco, Oonagh Turnbull said.
“We’d like to thank everyone who supports the important work we all do through this campaign, and we’re grateful for the generosity of shoppers up and down the country,” chief executive at Cancer Research UK, Michelle Mitchell said.
She added: “Campaigns like ‘Helping you to live healthier’ are a great way to raise money, and to encourage people to make healthier choices that lead to healthier lifestyles.”
