Asda boosts paid leave for reservist colleagues

News

Asda is increasing support for colleagues connected to the Armed Forces with new leave policies for reservists and cadet force adult volunteers.

The supermarket said reservist colleagues will receive 10 days of paid leave each year, plus a further five days of unpaid leave, to help them balance military commitments with their roles across the business.

The policy changes, announced ahead of Armed Forces Day on 27 June, will come into effect in the coming weeks.

Asda is also introducing an additional five days of volunteer leave for colleagues who support cadet organisations and youth development programmes.

The grocer said the move was designed to better support colleagues who serve, have served, or contribute to the Armed Forces community through volunteering.

Asda will also introduce a voluntary system allowing colleagues to share their ex-military status, helping the retailer better understand its Armed Forces community and shape future support.

The supermarket has been signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant since 2014 and holds a Silver Award under the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, which recognises employers supporting military personnel, reservists, veterans and their families.

Asda chief people officer James Goodman said: “Colleagues from the Armed Forces community bring a wealth of valuable skills, experience and leadership that make a real difference across our business.

“We’re proud to stand behind those who serve or have served, and these enhanced policies are about making sure we better support members of the Armed Forces community.”
