The UK workers’ union Unite has secured a pay rise for Nestle workers which is above the RPI rate of inflation.

The FMCG manufacturer’s employees in Buxton, Carlisle, Halifax, Tutbury and York are set to receive a 3.9 per cent pay increase.

Unite currently represents over 1,200 members at Nestlé, including manufacturing sites in Buxton, Carlisle, Halifax, Tutbury and York.

After pay negotiations the workers voted in favour of accepting the offer, and the one-year pay deal will be backdated to April 2026.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “This deal was achieved because Nestle workers are in a strong union and benefit from collective bargaining.

“Unite does what it says on the trade union tin – achieving better jobs, pay and conditions for our members.”

Unite national officer for food, drink and agriculture, Pat Mcilvogue, said: “This deal is another example of why food, drink and agriculture workers looking for a better deal at work should join Unite and organise their colleagues to join too.

“There is power in a union; there is power in Unite.”

This comes after the FMCG giant began issuing retrenchment notices in March to over 400 employees in South Africa as part of a global reorganisation that will see around 16,000 roles cut worldwide.
