Waitrose plan to track carbon emissions across seafood supply chain
Waitrose has announced new plans to deploy the Seafood Carbon Emissions Profiling Tool (SCEPT) to track and decrease carbon emissions across its seafood supply chain.
The move aims to promote sustainability within the retailer’s supply chain by providing data on where emissions are highest and measuring progress towards reduction targets.
Ben Lambden, partner & manager, fisheries and aquaculture at Waitrose, said: “At Waitrose, we’re committed to sourcing seafood responsibly and reducing the environmental impact of our supply chains.
“By adopting the SCEPT, we will work with our seafood supply chain to receive the data we need to identify carbon hotspots and work with those suppliers to make meaningful reductions.”

The online platform software measures benchmark performance with industry averages and helps with reporting carbon data with more accuracy and transparency.
Businesses are able to generate carbon footprint tracking for wild-capture and aquaculture products, including figures such as fuel use, packaging and transport.
The integration of the emissions tracking tool is part of Waitrose’s parent company, John Lewis Partnership’s commitment to achieving net-zero by 2035 and across its supply chain by 2050.
